Now for my favorite part of the blog, the part where I get to talk about myself! Haha just kidding, I like helping you guys better (kind of).
As I said before, my name is Nick and I am a 21-year-old, 4th year student at Stony Brook University. I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Marine Sciences. I am currently interested in becoming a Registered Dietician in the future. While at school, I work a job, am an active member of multiple clubs and organizations, and I do pretty well in my classes too. I tell you all this so that you know I too am busy, but I have found ways to successfully stay organized and plan out my days to make sure I still find time to work out, hang out with friends, and have fun. If I can do it, you can do it too, and if you’re struggling with it right now, hopefully I can help you out.
Technically I have been lifting since I was a Freshman in High School (2014), but I didn’t get serious with it, where I started meal prepping and actually planning out my work outs, until senior year, 2017. So that makes about 4 years now of lifting, dieting, and overall fitness experience. I learned that I am an ectomorph, meaning my fast metabolism makes it difficult for me to put on weight including muscle. Because of this, I have struggled to find what exercises and diets work best for me to help me put on the weight I was looking for. It was no easy task and it included many failures, with no help from genetics, but throughout my journey I have discovered what does and what does not work for me.
I have also fallen for some “fitness trends” that turned out to be complete BS. Therefore, I’ve learned to try to seek out the most legit sources. Whether that be well known fitness websites, professional published research articles, or trusted friends and mentors that work out just as much, if not more than me. This way, you can be sure that all the information I am giving you is backed up by facts and can be trusted. I’ve learned my lessons the hard way, and now I want to help you to not make the same mistakes I made so that you can reach your goals faster!
My fitness journey is far from over but so far this is what I’ve accomplished; I went from a scrawny 130 pounds to a bulky 180 pounds, and then back down to a lean 160 pounds during the summer of 2020. I started bulking again and reached 185 pounds (the heaviest I have every been) by this December 2021. I am in the middle of my cut for the summer right now and hope to get more lean once again!
To balance my mind with my body, I started meditating in December 2019, and I have been trying to meditate every single day since then. However, I have not been so consistent recently, but I have logged over 2300 minutes of meditation. I talk more about why I meditate and the benefits of it in the “Meditation” section of my blog posts.
This past fall semester, I was able to successfully bulk up to 185 lbs which is the heaviest I have ever been and I am very happy with what I was able to accomplish. Now that I have built this base of muscle, it is time to lean out and begin my cut. Thus, this spring semester I will be attempting to cut while on my campus meal plan and be in a calorie deficit. Not having full control over my diet due to my meal plan makes cutting difficult, but not impossible! If I can do it, so can you! In the gym, I will be doing an upper-lower split where I am in the gym 4-days of the week and the library 7-days of the week.
Please join me as I not only share with you my journey but give you the tips and tricks you need to start a fitness journey of your own and start living the healthy life you deserve!
It would be so awkward if your friend read the newest blog before you! Don't let that happen. Sign up for email alerts and get notified as soon as a new blog is up!
A special thank you to all my friends and family who have not only supported me on my journey but have helped along the way. None of this would be possible without them. Remember to take time to appreciate those in your lives!
